Learning through play - Photo Gallery - Mon 15th January 2024 - activities about winter for preschoolers

A little boy playing with fake snow

Winter has unmistakably settled in Cardiff, and here at the nursery, we're embracing the season with exciting activities about winter for preschoolers. This week's focus revolves around the enchanting world of snow and ice, creating an engaging environment where children can explore, learn, and have a blast.

All our activities about winter for preschoolers are designed to develop specific skills.

This week the children will be working on their fine motor skills playing with fake snow and decorating gingerbread biscuits. They will also be busy developing their creativity whilst getting a better understanding of the world around them with our arctic animals’ scene.

Baking is always a lot of fun. It’s wonderful to see the children beaming when they can take their creations home. This week as part of our activities about winter for preschoolers we will be decorating some gingerbread biscuits. A fun way to reintroduce colours as we work on making our gingerbread biscuits the prettier ever!

Learning is seamlessly integrated into playtime at Shining Stars. This week’s snowman game will introduce mathematical concepts, while winter puzzles will foster reasoning skills, decision-making, and confidence in the children.

For those of you eager to reinforce Welsh language skills at home, the word we will be introducing at snack time is “Diolch” and we will use some simple phrases in Welsh to ask for something: “Ga-i…” (Can I have…).

Join us in making this winter season a time of joy, growth, and discovery for our little stars. The children will love listening and singing this week’s song at home with you (Little Jackie Jack Frost), and telling you all about this week’s story (Winter by Ailie Busby)
